Wachtang “Botso” Korisheli (1922 – 2015) was a Renaissance man who was born in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, trained as a concert pianist there and at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music, founded the San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony in 1965, served as a role model to thousands of aspiring music students, and learned to carve stone from late Cambria sculptor George Papashvily. Several of Korisheli’s sculptures are on public display in Morro Bay.
