Dear SLOMA Friends,

What an extraordinary moment it is to be part of this community. As we move through a year of transformation, there is so much to celebrate — and so much still ahead. We wanted to share an update on where we are, what’s coming, and how your continued support is making it all possible.

On view: 1010 Broad

We have two remarkable shows ahead at 1010 Broad and we hope you’ll be there for both. Our next exhibition, Alicia Adamerovich: Conundrums, premieres exclusively for members ahead of our regular First Friday celebration on Friday, June 5th. Members get in early for a peek at 4:30 PM before the community gathers at 5:30 PM. We love when two celebrations collide and all our friends are together at once!

This fall, we honor this building’s storied history with a show drawn entirely from SLOMA’s Permanent Collection, a fitting and deeply personal tribute to the space that has been our home since 1968. That exhibition opens in October, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

What comes next: 1010 Broad reimagined

When the collection show closes, 1010 Broad will begin an exciting new chapter: transforming into SLOMA’s dedicated Education Center. The space will come alive with dynamic community exhibitions and, we are thrilled to say, the return of the beloved camps and classes that so many of you and your families have cherished over the years.

From young artists to lifelong learners, this reimagined space will be a creative home for all.

The expansion: Higuera Street Construction Begins!

The SLOMA expansion on Higuera Street is taking shape, and the response from our community has been nothing short of remarkable. Visitors, neighbors, and arts advocates from across the region have been moved by the sheer scale and beauty of what is emerging: a luminous, welcoming space that will anchor the arts in San Luis Obispo County for generations to come.

The enthusiasm has been wide and genuine. People see in this building not just a museum, but a reflection of who we are as a community—curious, creative, and deeply committed to the arts.

How you can help

Fundraising for the expansion continues, and we want to be clear: every single gift matters. Whether you’ve already given or are considering your first contribution, your generosity is not just appreciated — it is essential. This has always been a community vision, held close for a long time by so many of you. Each gift is a vote of confidence in that vision and in the future of the arts in our region.

If you’d like to make a gift or learn more about how to support the expansion, please reach out to me at lstandish@sloma.org. I would love to walk you through the vision coming to life.

What we are building together is more than a museum. It is a gathering place for wonder — and it belongs to all of us.

With gratitude and excitement,

Leann Standish
Executive Director
San Luis Obispo Museum of Art
