Stanton Gray, with his wife Gladys, were strong supporters and patrons of the Art Center in its early days. Mr. Gray was a professor at Cal Poly, and a professor in the Ornamental Horticulture Department. This painting is an example of the stylized images he created in his later works. He painted primarily birds, which he observed from his kitchen window.
The Art Center’s curator, Arne Nybak, requested this painting for its Permanent Collection.
