Born in Iowa, Jo Werts attended the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago where a few of her instructors were Richard Diebenkorn and Francis de Erdely. Jo Werts then moved to the beaches of Los Angeles and received a master’s degree in fine art at USC. She moved to Cambria in 1968 and mainly painted landscapes, flowers and portaits.
Jo Werts was a member of the National Watercolor Society, Central Coast Printmakers, and the Central Coast Watercolor Society.
