SLOMA's Director holding an adorable kitten in the gallery

Hello Friends,

Sharpen those pencils: it’s back-to-school season! Around here, that always feels like a fresh start, full of curiosity, creativity, and the unmitigated joy of a school field trip. At SLOMA, we’re carrying that same energy into the busy months ahead.

I have to admit, I’m a little sad to see Trish Andersen’s dazzling installation in the Gray Wing come down. I’ll miss walking through that terrific explosion of color every day. The exhibition radiates peace and tranquility, giving our community a chance to slow down, breathe, and simply be in the presence of art. To complement Trish’s work, we were delighted to play host to the University of California’s Cooperative Extension Program and the Exploring Threads of Connection series, which invited local healthcare workers to consider how small actions can build something greater. Together, the exhibition and programs shined a light on the importance of connection and mindfulness in the healthcare professional space.

And because art is always better with a little surprise—Andersen’s exhibition also gave us the perfect excuse to partner with Woods Humane Society to bring kittens into the yarn-filled gallery (with the artist’s enthusiastic blessing, of course). If you need a moment of Zen, don’t miss the video on our Instagram page which you can follow here!

Looking ahead, there’s so much more to inspire you in 2025. Next up are the poetic works of Siji Krishnan, whose delicate imagery promises to transport you. Then, we’re thrilled to present a joint exhibition by former Cal Poly architecture professor and longtime Atascadero local Keith Wiley, alongside Boston-based artist Adria Arch, who both bring inventive perspectives to space, form, and play.

So pack your curiosity (no hall pass required!) and join us for a new season of art, community, and imagination.

See you at the museum,

Leann Standish
SLOMA Executive Director
