Summer 2025

University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE), in partnership with SLOMA, led a series of collaborative programs helping healthcare professionals build resilience through reflective practice. Sponsored by Adventist Health, this new workshop series used art, movement, and guided reflection to strengthen provider well-being and enrich patient care.

Set inside Trish Andersen’s immersive installation Little by Little, each two-hour session invited healthcare providers to consider how small parts can build something greater—how patience, presence, and persistence can shape a joyful and unified whole, while practicing evidence-based techniques taught by Harvard Medical School faculty. Participants left with transferable skills to deepen empathy, curiosity, and cultural responsiveness in their daily work.

These workshops were offered in support of SLO County Healthcare Workforce Partnership’s effort to improve retention and provide meaningful training opportunities healthcare providers working in oral health, behavioral health, and physical health.

What Did We Find?

Across the trainings, 100% of participants completed course evaluations; all participants indicated that they live or work in San Luis Obispo County, with one participant indicating that they also live or work in Santa Barbara County. Most exciting: 100% of participants reported that they gained new information as a result of participating in the workshop and 100% reported that they would utilize the information they learned.

Stay tuned for more art + health programming, coming soon!
