Printed tiles in a grid

Details

Organized Chaos is a year-long mixed media project by regional artist Vicky Hoffman about experimentation, persistence, and showing up to make art. In 2024, the artist set out to make one new artwork per week, resulting in a series of mixed media “tiles,” all cut from a single large roll of watercolor paper. The series began with a continuous graphite line drawn across all the tiles, serving as an anchor and a path into the creative process. The works are intuitive and layered, built up with materials like graphite, acrylic, Japanese kozo paper, produce netting, and copper wire. The tiles can be arranged in different ways: by the original continuous line, in the order they were made, or simply by feel. Each arrangement tells a different story about the evolution of thought, emotion, and mark-making.
