Dear Friends of SLOMA,
As the seasons shift, I’m continually reminded of the quiet power of art—not only as a means of expression, but also as a source of healing, reflection, and renewal.
The World Health Organization now recommends visiting museums as part of a well-rounded approach to health and wellbeing. At a time when life feels increasingly full of noise and pressure, museums like SLOMA offer something rare: a space to slow down, take a breath, and reconnect—with ourselves, with others, and with beauty.
Not long ago, we received a thank-you note from an elementary school student who visited on a class field trip. In their own words, “[Art] helps me to feel calm when I’m under pressure…” What a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. In that simple sentence is a truth we all know: art soothes, centers, and strengthens us.
At SLOMA we believe so much in the healing power of art that we’ll introduce a series of programs over the summer designed to create space and care for our region’s health care workers.
Whether you’re exploring an immersive installation, discovering a new artist, or simply sitting in front of a painting that speaks to you, we hope your time at SLOMA brings you peace and perspective. Thank you for helping us create a place where art—and wellbeing—are for everyone.
With warmth and gratitude,
Leann Standish
SLOMA Executive Director
